Good clinical laboratory practice training

The Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP) online course is a free, open access eLearning programme developed by The Global Health Network and the Global Health Clinical Consortium. This course offers a practical way to train laboratory staff and research teams to implement GCLP in line with international expectations, thereby supporting laboratory quality, clinical trial sample management and data integrity. It introduces the principles of GCLP and then expands them into a multi module, in depth course that shows how to implement each principle across the clinical trial laboratory workflow. 

The course is delivered through the Global Health Training Centre’s eLearning platform as a set of peer reviewed modules. The course comprises seven independently completable modules, peer-reviewed by technical experts across multiple product development partner organisations. Each module has a summary page describing learning objectives, expected duration and prerequisites, and includes interactive content, downloadable or hyperlinked supporting resources, a glossary and a quiz. 

Introduction to Good Clinical Laboratory Practice functions both as a standalone short course (typically 45–60 or up to 60–120 minutes) and as the first module in the full GCLP series. Subsequent modules deepen the coverage of individual GCLP principles, such as organisation and personnel, facilities and equipment, standard operating procedures and analytical plans, method and system validation, quality management and sample management, conduct of the work, data recording and reporting.
 

Across the series, participants learn to:

• distinguish between Good Clinical Practice, Good Laboratory Practice and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice
• understand how GCLP compliance benefits laboratories and the clinical trial process
• know the GCLP principles and their requirements
• apply GCLP across the clinical trial process, including sample management and data integrity

Each module includes a final quiz; a certificate is issued once a minimum of 80% is achieved in the quiz, and, when all modules are available, an overall GCLP certificate is awarded to learners who achieve at least 80% across all module quizzes. The modules are currently available in English (with some introductory content also translated into other languages), and are listed alongside other popular courses such as ICH Good Clinical Practice E6 on the Global Health Training Centre eLearning page.
